Background

In recent years, the employment of people with hearing disabilities has expanded from welfare employment to general employment. In the amendment of the Act to Facilitate the Employment of Persons with Disabilities in 2016, the idea of reasonable consideration was introduced and public guidelines calling for job-related consideration including information sharing were added. *1
Since then, not only hearing aids, lipreading, sign language, and written communication as means of communication, but in recent years, the latest digital tools such as applications that automatically transcribe spoken contents have begun to be used in the workplace as well, but there are problems that have not been solved by these tools alone. A particular hurdle is that it is difficult to listen when talking with multiple people. In surveys we have conducted, there were many opinions that it was difficult to hear what was said and to identify the speakers at meetings, morning assemblies, and training sessions where more than a certain number of participants were gathered and information sharing and discussions were important.

History of development

We started Research and Development of VUEVO jointly with Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President & CEO: Hiroshi Nomura) to facilitate communication between hearing impairment persons and/or persons with hearing difficulties and those hearers, thereby increasing opportunities to interact with each other without undue stress or concern. Since then, we have conducted numerous interviews and prototype demonstrations with many hearing impaired persons and persons with hearing difficulties, corporate personnel and other listeners, and experts in the medical and educational fields. The newly released "VUEVO" is the first product to commercialize the results.
